World’s First Photojournalist has photograph published in magazine.
Carol Szathmari, who photographed the Crimean War from 1853-1865, was the world’s first photojournalist. He used a wagon equipped with a dark room while working near the battlefields. Since Szathmari’s images of war were the very first, his album received a great deal of attention, as well as many awards. Unfortunately, none of his albums survived – they were lost in various fires, however, there are a few surviving photographs that historians speculate were Szathmari’s. One of his images appeared in the French magazine “Le Monde Illustre” in October 1857.
