Here is an interesting photography event for New Yorkers this weekend. From 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Humble Arts Foundation and gallery/art space 3rd Ward will be hosting a panel discussion entitled “Women in Art Photography.” The first in what will hopefully become an ongoing series, this lecture will be hosted by award-winning photographer Amy Stein, whom readers might remember from the August 2006 “How I Shot This” for her series “Domesticated”, and also as one of American Photo’s Emerging Photographers of 2007.
The panel, which will include photographers Rachael Dunville, Tema Stauffer, Cara Phillips, Mary Mattingly and Sarah Small, will discuss topics such as “what it means to be an emerging photographer in New York City right now and how gender may or may not influence the artist’s work in terms of process, subject matter, impact and career path.”
For more info and to RSVP, visit the Humble Arts website. 3rd Ward is located at 195 Morgan Avenue in Brooklyn (L Train to Grand Street and walk straight down about ten blocks).
