The 2007 W. Eugene Smith Grant in Humanistic Photography is now open for entries. Interested photographers can download an application online; entries deadline is July 15, 2007.
One of photography’s most prestigious awards, the $30,000 grant is bestowed on a photographer whose work upholds the “commitment to documenting the human condition” exemplified by the life and work of W. Eugene Smith. An additional $5,000 in fellowship money is also rewarded at the discretion of the jury.
Last year’s award went to Magnum photographer Paolo Pellegrin for his project “MAKTA–It Is Written: A Journey Through the Lands of Islam.” Teru Kuwayama received the additional $5,000 grant.
